Story
Nelle (above) is one of the lucky ones. Rescued from China's meat trade, she's found joy with a wonderful family in the UK.
But over 200 dogs like Nelle are still in China waiting to start their new lives. Most have been waiting more than 18 months in temporary kennels. Please help us to get them home so they too can experience the love and happiness they so deserve.
We're never giving up on these dogs
When the pandemic hit last year, flights out of China stopped completely. That meant the dogs we saved from the meat trade and unethical breeding programmes were stuck in temporary kennels that were never intended for long term stays. The resulting vets and boarding costs have been huge and have stretched our resources to the limit. Full kennels have also meant that we've been unable to take new dogs in. This has been heartbreaking.
Now, more than a year after Covid hit, flights have thankfully started again, but the cost and paperwork to get a dog to the UK or USA has tripled. We're working tirelessly to get them out but there are still over 200 dogs that need to come home.
"Flights are now becoming available but we need your help to meet the rocketing costs. These dogs have been waiting so long, but we're never giving up on them. Please help us bring these dogs home. "
Kerry Ellerman, founder Candy Cane Rescue
With your help we can fly over 200 dogs to the UK and USA where they can be matched with loving new families and start their new lives. Thank you so much for your support. We couldn't do this without you.
It costs over £3,000 to rescue, rehabilitate and fly a dog to the UK or USA. We charge a £450 fee to rehome a dog but all other costs are met by donations.
