Story

Magnificent 7

Liz Bowie, chief executive of Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT), and friends of Duncan are taking part in an epic Munro challenge to raise funds for the new Brighter Futures legacy fund.

The team will take in a magnificent seven Munros all within 24 hours, covering 35 miles and climbing five of the six highest Munros in Scotland!

Bob Keiller, a close personal friend of Duncan and former colleague, has generously donated an amazing £20,000 to the Brighter Futures Munro Challenge in Duncans memory. This has given the fund a huge boost and all at the Trust and Club are extremely grateful to Bob.

Brighter Futures

The 'Brighter Futures' legacy fund has been established in memory of Aberdeen FC Community Trust former chairman, Duncan Skinner. The fund will support the Trust's work with young people, including a year-long programme to transform the lives of those aged between 14 and 18, and beyond into education and employment.

Delivered by AFCCT, the Brighter Futures programme will give young people the chance to gain essential life experiences, skills and qualifications, otherwise not available to them. The programme will improve their chances of securing employment and reaching their full potential. Each young person on the programme will be supported in setting goals and then developing the skills and qualifications required to reach those, through meaningful learning, work experiences and volunteering through the Trust. These volunteering experiences, in particular, will further the reach of the programme into support for the wider community.

With the goal of reaching £100,000, the legacy fund will allow us to run the Brighter Futures programme for five years, helping young people to maximise their potential.

The fund will help deliver training courses, youth exchange programmes, vouchers for interview and workplace clothing, travel costs, volunteering uniforms, work experience, internships and placements, an award ceremony for graduation and a mentor to support young people through their first year of further education or employment.

The Trust has already raised more than £85,000 towards the Duncan Skinner Brighter Futures fund. This Just Giving appeal will help us to reach our ambitious target of £100,000 enabling hundreds of young people to benefit in the years to come.

Your donations make all this possible.

Please consider making a monthly direct debit or one-off donation, your gift will ensure we can continue to deliver the programme to support young people to achieve a Brighter Future.

Thank you for your continued support!
