Story
Based in Inverness in the highlands of Scotland, we set this wee charity up in 2018.
In 2014, our son Sam was born. Very unexpectedly, there were anomalies detected at birth and eventually he was given a diagnosis of a very rare condition (one of eight in the whole world ). He spent some time in the special care baby unit, and following this, our desire for fundraising was borne and we were delighted to raise in excess of £25,000 for the unit over the course of 2 events.
From birth Sam has had a lot of input from NHS specialists and we have been absolutely grateful for all he has received. The NHS cannot provide the hands on therapy that children like Sam really need in order to meet their full potential.
When Sam was about 4, we took him to London for specialist physiotherapy and another therapy known as CME. We could not believe the expertise of these people and it really helped Sam come on. The costs however, given the specialism of these therapists is not cheap. Our friends and families rallied round and a fundraising pot was set up for Sam to access these therapies. We were blown away and could not believe how much people wanted to help.
We wanted to help other children just as people had helped our son and eventually our dream came to fruition and we received charitable status in 2019. We have now funded over 100 blocks of therapy for children in the Highland area and the difference this has made to their lives has been phenomenal.
We are lucky to have access to a specialist physio and OT who travel up regularly from England and treat many local children, the majority of this is facilitated by the grants we provide. Without this, many would find it difficult to find and this is what really made us want to set up the charity - money should not be an issue in this instance. Most of these children experience inequality in a number of ways and we feel passionate that this should not be the case when it comes to accessing treatments to help them.
The pandemic has put a halt to our fundraising efforts, so we are absolutely delighted that two parents of a child we have supported in the past to access therapy have come on board and are organising an EPIC cycle from
Skye to Inverness on 24th September. This will really boost our funds and enable us to keep on providing grants for local children.
Heather and Kevin thank you so much!
With love and thanks
