Story
Beckenham Rugby Football Club was founded on 19th October, 1894 with 25 players. Almost 127 years later we remain at the very heart of our community. We are a hub for over 1000 players and social members of all ages (from 2 to 102) and we serve the wider Blue and Gold Community with associated clubs (Beckenham Rugby Cyclists etc) partner charities (O2e and CASPA) and events (Beckenham Half Marathon etc). We are self sustaining and strive to be the best Community Club.
We have been well served in the past but we cant ever be complacent so..how do we make sure our club is here to serve future generations and continue to promote rugby as a sport for ALL? The 125 Build was kicked off to celebrate our 125th Anniversary (October 2019) and provide more revenue to keep the club moving forward independently. We are so lucky to own our own grounds and we should continue to take full advantage.
To date, we have extended the car park, providing much needed space for our growing membership. Next we want to build a purpose built kitchen and players dining room, situated between the existing coffee lounge and the bungalow. This will support more revenue-generating functions. The planning permission and technical drawings are complete and approved, and we are starting to negotiate with local builders. If they have the capacity, we can get the build done this summer ready for the 2021-22 season, but we still need to raise £25,000 through this initiative. Sounds a lot, but we do have over 1,000 members!
So, this May, we are challenging all club members, friends and family to get involved. Cycle, run, walk or swim 500km (125km or 125 of something fun for youth). Set a target for your team, family, or age group and link your JustGiving page to this central one. We only ask you to raise £125 (more if you would like) and you will be contributing to something very special.
