To help our visitors, we are launching a Winter Appeal, this is to make what can be a very difficult time of year a little brighter for the people who visit us at a time that should be about hope and togetherness.

In our first year as an independent charity, we have distributed emergency parcels to over 7,500 people with almost 40% of those being children. Makena is typical of the many children we see, and her story is described in our appeal letter that she wrote this year; her family is typical of the many who visit the food bank. She describes the fear and shame her mother felt when they were forced to visit the food bank for the first time as well as the warm smiles and kindness they received.

In her letter Makena says

“..the food we took home was a lifeline, but Brent Foodbank gave us so much more than that. They gave us dignity and hope. They talked to dad about claiming a Personal Independence Plan and put us in touch with a housing charity who helped us get critical repairs to our damp, crumbling home. Thanks to the foodbank, we had a safe, dry house where we could finally breathe easy again.

That’s why I’m writing today - to ask you to donate to this incredible charity.
