Story

**UPDATE 16/10/24**

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Your support for Moose means the world to us. Unfortunately, Moose’s surgery was even more complicated than expected. But the vets predict he will make a full recovery with lots of rest but he will need hydrotherapy to help him regain his full strength. With this in mind, we have extended our target to help towards the rehabilitation costs for Moose so we can get him back on his feet! Thank you so much for all your continued support!

After an unfathomable stretch of time braving living on the streets, Moose's life took a turn when dog wardens found him and brought him to a temporary shelter, before he arrived at our rescue centre in Berkshire. Little did we realize that during his time with us, we would uncover the heartbreaking truth that one-year-old Moose was suffering in agonising pain.

As soon as Moose arrived at our centre, it was impossible not to notice, not only that he was struggling to breathe but the way he limped. Our hearts sank as we dreaded the possibility that Moose may have torn his cruciate ligament – a deeply painful condition that can plague dogs. After a thorough evaluation by our dedicated vets and a series of scans, we were faced with an even more heartbreaking truth: that Moose’s injury was far worse than we feared. His cruciate ligament wasn't just torn; it was completely ruptured. The very bones in his legs have become detached from one another, causing a painful strain on his once sturdy joints. Due to how much more extensive a rupture repair is to a tear; Moose now has to see a specialist orthopaedic vet to help get him the urgent surgery he desperately needs.

This surgery is monumental; Moose is facing the daunting need for a metal plate to be fixed to his knee, a vital step toward helping him walk properly once more. Furthermore, our dear Moose desperately needs BOAS surgery to reclaim his ability to breathe freely on his own. At this moment, even the slightest stroll leaves him gasping for air and struggling to keep up, his leg faltering beneath him. It’s heart-breaking to see a dog as young as he is like this, unable to have even the simplest joy of a walk.

The weight of this necessity bears heavily on our rescue, which is already grappling with financial challenges for other animals under our care. We are currently also caring for a mother cat and her precious litter of seven kittens that have all needed medical attention, as some of you may have seen from our other recent JustGiving. And we had another emergency intake of 6 kittens that were found stranded in the middle of a road.

Moose’s urgent need for surgery has arisen at a time when our resources are already stretched painfully thin, as many of you may be aware. We are reaching out with heartfelt urgency to our supporters for help in this crucial moment. If you feel inspired to contribute towards Moose’s care, we kindly ask you to consider donating or sharing Moose’s story to make a difference in his life today.
