Story
Did you know that only 14% of local carers get a break from their caring role?
You can change this, and ensure that more carers have access to breaks that are vital for their wellbeing. Carers like Val:
I have cared for my husband since 1998 when he suffered a brain injury. This altered his personality and impacted on his short term memory and cognitive skills. Then almost 10 years later he had stomach and oesophageal cancer. This impacted his life further in as much as eating etc became even more restrictive.
My life for myself now revolves around carers organisations and all the support , activities and friendships that these have given me.
Regular short carers activities become a vital part of my life. As I cannot leave my husband overnight these daytime activities are like my respite breaks.
Any gathering organised by Care for the Carers appear like beacons of light in my otherwise stressful daily life.
I would not be able to cope as well as I do without these activities and meetings, my lifeline which I am so grateful for.
