Why run for the Red Cross?

The British Red Cross helps millions of people in the UK and around the world get the support they need when crisis strikes. Whether we're supporting families arriving from Ukraine, giving a lifeline to those struggling with loneliness and the cost of living across the UK or rescuing survivors from the rubble after earthquakes in Morocco, we strive to get people the vital help they need at times of crisis.

By joining #TeamRedCross at Hackney Half 2025, you will enable us to provide continued support to people at their time of need.

Whatever the need and wherever it may be, every step you take and every pound you raise will allow the Red Cross to be there as the worlds emergency responders.

About the event

The Hackney Half Marathon is one of London's most popular events, with the event showcasing East London in all it's glory.

Starting in the famous Queen Elizabethan park, you will race through the streets of Hackney passing Hackney Downs, the Hackney Empire, the British Red Cross Hackney refugee centre, Victoria Park and the London Stadium.

Along the way, you will pass DJs, live bands and supporters who will cheer you over the finishing line.

With 24,000 runners taking part and an incredible atmosphere promised, it truly is a day to remember.

Every pound you raise in sponsorship as a #TeamRedCross runner will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by crisis in the UK and around the world.

Your fundraising will allow the Red Cross to be there as the worlds emergency responders:

£5 could provide a community in Bangladesh with training on water sanitation and hygiene, helping people keep themselves healthy after a disaster.

£12 could buy a hygiene pack for a refugee or person seeking asylum in the UK, giving them access to some of the basics no one should go without.

£20 could give a parent in the UK the essential items they need to care for a newborn baby, when they have lost everything due to flooding.

£50 could help a family in Nigeria prepare for when severe flooding hits again.

£75 could keep 150 survivors of a fire at a block of flats in the UK warm, while we support them to find emergency accommodation for the night.
