Story

Every year, our amazing #TeamRedCross runners come to Newcastle to take part in the world's 'biggest and best' half marathon and raise vital funds to support the work of the British Red Cross

Why run for the Red Cross?

The British Red Cross helps millions of people in the UK and around the world get the support they need when crisis strikes. Whether we're supporting families arriving from Ukraine, giving a lifeline to those struggling with loneliness and the cost of living across the UK or rescuing survivors from the rubble after earthquakes in Morocco, we strive to get people the vital help they need at times of crisis.

By joining #TeamRedCross at the 2024 Great North Run, you will enable us to provide continued support to people at their time of need.

Whatever the need and wherever it may be, every step you take and every pound you raise will allow the Red Cross to be there as the worlds emergency responders.

THANK YOU!

As part of #TeamRedCross, you will be supported by our dedicated Challenge Events team every step of the way. Our team will:

> provide 1-2-1 fundraising advice and support to help you smash your sponsorship target

> keep you updated about our work and the difference your fundraising will have

> send you an exclusive FREE Red Cross running vest

> support you with huge cheers along the route and celebrate you at our post-race finish line tent in the event village

About the event

The 13.1-mile route takes you through Newcastle city centre, across the iconic Tyne Bridge to reach the finish line in South Shields where you can enjoy stunning sea views and refreshments and a massive well done in our Red Cross tent!

With 60,000 runners taking part and joyous crowds lining the streets along the way, it truly is a day to remember.

You are amazing: how your fundraising will help

Every pound you raise in sponsorship as a #TeamRedCross runner will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by crisis in the UK and around the world.

Your fundraising will allow the Red Cross to be there as the worlds emergency responders:

> £22 could provide a wheelchair for one week for an unemployed person who can't afford to hire one for themselves, helping them to get out and about as they recover from injury.

> £47 could help a refugee or asylum seeker access an interpreter so they can get advice, in their language, on everything from healthcare and travel to education and legal support. Our caseworkers can also help find a place for them to learn English, so they can settle into their new life just that little bit easier.

> £51 could provide a tarpaulin shelter to three families who’ve been displaced from their home by the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

> £100 could provide 12,000 chlorine tablets, ensuring people affected by the conflict in Ukraine have access to safe, clean water.

> £250 could buy a vulnerable person in the UK a fuel card top-up, helping to keep them warm at home in the winter.

Whatever the need, your fundraising will allow the Red Cross to be there so THANK YOU!
