Story
Since the charitys launch in 2011, JBTC have helped over 1,200 local islanders (patients and family included) providing emotional and practical support. Each patients journey is unique and individual to them, and their needs will vary too. Size, position of tumour, type of tumour, symptoms, and prognosis. All vary from one person to another.
The one common factor is being told you have a brain tumour is devastating. What to do next? Who can you turn to? The need for information is high!
Apart from JBTC support to feel less alone, there is lots of information and terminology out there online. Dr Google is not your friend.
However, UK charity brainstrust provide invaluable information within their Brain Box, in their words - a lifeline after diagnosis, provision of key information and books plus, simple things that remind you to look after yourself. Basically, a box of information sent to you.
The Brain Box is the must have toolkit for people with a brain tumour and their carers, allowing you to make sense of what is happening.
After discussion with brainstrust they have partnered with JBTC to provide the Brain Box locally, this is so needed to answer questions, prior to seeing a Neurosurgeon. It is filling a huge void locally when you needed it. JBTC would like to hold 20 boxes on the Island for immediate support. These boxes do come with a cost, around £40 each. So, we are looking to cover this by a Just Giving Appeal to fund boxes and shipping them to Jersey. We estimate £1000 will help to start to fund this for remainder of 2022.
As JBTC continue to support more patients locally these Brain Boxes will support people currently living with a brain tumour. If you can help please donate.
