Story
Phase 2 -
Thank you for visiting our page! We have achieved so much so far but we are not finished yet!
We are currently fundraising towards the landscaping of the outside space so that in the summer the children can take their reading in to a beautiful garden area and to get some blinds for the top deck windows for those who still wish to enjoy the bus. We would like for the bus to be carbon neutral and aim to get green energy via solar panels or a wind turbine (mini of course). We also want to diversify the range of books we have available for the children - we still have lots of shelf space that we would love to fill with some great stories that represent the children reading them!
Upcoming Events
30/03/2024 - Martin is Skydiving 11'000 feet to raise funds for Lyla's legacy.
06/04/2024 - 50/50 Walk for Lyla - Back again for a 3rd year! A remake of a Brakenhale School fundraiser from the 90's. Friends and Family will be walking 21 miles from Ascot to Windsor and ending in Bracknell. We will also be joined by Friends and Family walking in Middlesbrough and Manchester.
Phase 1 -
Reading is the most important skill for children to develop and a love of reading has life-long benefits. Currently, we have a small non-fiction library (in a corridor) but we have no space for children to browse or snuggle up and enjoy a good book.
We came up with the idea of renovating an old double decker bus as a Book Bus, with space to read, and relax! After writing lots of emails, Ensign Bus Company in Purfleet generously gave us an old bus which is now on our playground!
Tragically, in April, one of our pupils suddenly died, aged 5. After such a hard half term following Lyla's death, we thought that working together to create a book bus, dedicated to her memory, would bring us all together and be a positive and creative project to undertake.
There is a huge amount of work to do to transform the bus into an exciting library for the children and we are hoping that parents, staff, children, friends, the local churches and the wider community will come together the help us achieve our dream.
One way you can help is by donating funds to support the project. We are nearly half way to meeting our target of £30,000. This money will go towards renovating the bus so it can be an exciting place for the children to be. It will cover the costs of electrical work, carpentry, bodywork, heating and lighting installation, furniture, and painting and decorating the inside and out. And of course, we will need lots and lots of good quality books too!
Thank you for any support you can give to transform our old bus into a wonderful place for our children to read books and listen to stories, and to remember Lyla.
