Story

Can you help give Megan, Mildred and Ivy the life changing surgery they need to breathe?

The Problem

Brachycephalic, or “flat faced” dogs, like Pugs and Bulldogs, often suffer with a health complication called Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) which makes it very difficult for the dog to breathe properly. Dogs with BOAS don’t get enough air in when they take a breath which has a big impact on both their health and quality of life.

How You Can Help

BOAS surgery can be done on the dogs nose to remove excess tissue and increase the size of their airway. Our vet, Katy, has already performed this surgery on one of our dogs, Minnie, who has now made a full recovery and has been able to be adopted.

We are now looking towards our other Bulldogs, Megan and Ivy, and our Pug Mildred, who also desperately need this surgery. We have done everything in our power to bring the costs involved down as much as possible, and we will be carrying them out onsite to make it a less stressful experience for the dogs. We are now hoping to raise enough money to cover the remaining costs for the treatment. Any donation you are able to give will make a difference, helping them to live healthier, happier lives and give them the futures they deserve.

Meet the Dogs

Minnie's Story

“Hi, I’m Minnie, a 2 year old Bulldog who came to NAWT in November when my owner was no longer able to look after me. I had a lot of health complications when I first got to the centre, I had a bad case of cherry eye and BOAS which made it really difficult for me to breathe so I couldn’t exercise or play like I wanted to. Luckily, when I arrived I met Katy, the vet, who said she would be able to help me and everyone at NAWT promised to take care of me so that I could have a better life.

I’ve now had two surgeries to fix my eye and improve my nose and the difference they’ve made is amazing, for the first time I am breathing clearly and I feel so much better! Everyone says I’ve recovered so well, and at the end of January I was finally able to leave NAWT to start my life with my new family. The care and treatmrent I had, has completely chaanged my life and given me a future full of happiness. Please help my friends who are still at the centre to have the same chance.”
