Raising money for ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation), a core life-saving component of Barts Charity's Trauma Campaign, London's Lifeline
Bank of Montreal are fundraising for the ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) component to London's Lifeline. Your support will establish a new dedicated cardiac bypass service for critically injured patients at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
Bleeding trauma patients sustain severe damage to the heart as it pumps faster, trying to compensate for the loss of circulating blood. Too often, this leads to severe damage to the heart, multi-organ failure and death. ECMO will allow clinicians from the world-leading Trauma Team at the Royal London to rest the hearts of their patients and profoundly boost their chances for survival.
Having a dedicated Trauma ECMO service at the Royal London, working in tandem with a new generation of life-saving technology, is a world's first. Thanks to BMO, who have already helped to raise almost £150,000 since this time last year, Barts Charity is closer than ever to seeing ECMO being implemented in Europe's busiest Major Trauma Centre.
