Pause is a national charity that works with women who have had - or are at risk of having - more than one child removed from their care. Our vision is a society where families who experience the removal of children into care are given the best possible support, so that it never happens more than once. We offer an intensive, trauma-informed model of support to women to break this cycle. Our programme enables them to take a pause, focus, and prioritise the goals they want to achieve to sustain lasting, positive change in their lives.
Pause steps in a when all other support services disappear. We walk alongside women, helping them to make change and build strong foundations for the future. The change that’s possible is transformational for women and their families, and we have the evidence to prove it. We would like to see all families given this kind of support, but funding restrictions mean that’s not currently possible.
Since 2013, more than 2,000 women have completed the Pause Programme – before Pause they had had over 6,200 children removed from their care. With your support, we can reach more women and their families.
We were privileged to have had Katherine as a trustee and she is greatly missed. In 2024, Katherine told us: "These were my clients over many years. They waited too long for a Pause but I am so pleased to have worked with you on Pause when it came and to have witnessed the way it has transformed their lives.”
