Story

Back for 2024, Butterfly Conservation Trustee Simon Saville is once again getting on his bike to raise money for Butterfly Conservation!

This year Simon's epic journey will take him on a 700 mile route. Starting at the Great Orme (Llandudno, north Wales) and heading east to Whitchurch and north to Manchester, Preston, Fleetwood and Morecambe Bay. Then the Way of the Roses coast-to-coast route to Bridlington and wending his way southwards, eventually to Kettering.

Simon's journey will begin on 24 June, when he will start his 3 week adventure.

Once on his way you can catch up with Simon's journey on his blog here: https://butterfly-conservation.org/news-and-blog/bike-for-butterflies-2024-simons-diary

Setting off just after the Restore Nature Now march, Simon would like to see strong nature and climate leadership shown by UK politicians. Putting our environment and climate recovery at the top of their agendas.

"I'm doing my Bike for Butterflies challenge because the natural world is in trouble and we need urgent action. As a trustee and volunteer for Butterfly Conservation I want to see more space for nature in our towns and countryside. Wildlife won't survive unless we support nature-friendly farming, and get big businesses to contribute to nature and climate recovery. We can't save nature without solving the climate crisis, so we must halve UK emissions by 2030."

Along the way Simon will be taking time to visit a different wildlife site each day, taking in the magnificent scenery of England and Wales. Throughout the trip he is particularly hoping to see the Silver-studded Blue, Large Heath, Grayling and the Purple Emperor. Keep an eye on our social media to see how Simon get's on!

80% of butterflies have declined in abundance or distribution since 1976. We may be the last generation to enjoy butterflies and moths in abundance. Butterfly Conservation aim to change this through on the ground conservation work all across the UK.

Please send Simon a virtual cheer along his route with a donation today, and support this vital conservation work.
