Having built strong friendships before, during and after The Big Rugby Swim, Alix Popham, co-founder of Head for Change reunites with The Big Rugby Swim Teams as they participate in ‘The Big Rugby Swim’ with Beesure on 14th September 2024.

The event is open to everyone over the age of 18, who can choose three distances: 600m, 1,200m or 1,800m which will take place in Lisvane & Llanishen Reservoirs in Cardiff.

Swimmers might find themselves in the water with former Rugby Union players including: Alix Popham, Ben Breeze, Matt Dwyer, Gav Evans, Ian Gough, Ben Pegna, Jamie Ringer and Aaron Shingler.

The former Rugby League players include: Kevin Brown, Mick Cassidy, Jason Critchley and Francis Maloney.

As an inclusive event, The Big Rugby Swim is designed to bring everyone together and enjoy the day with friends and family cheering the swimmers on from the reservoir bank.

Complimentary tea and coffee will be available all day and bacon butties for the swimmers!

The objective of the event, whilst raising funds, is to raise the profile and awareness of Head for Change, and the plans being made to protect players and protect the games of rugby and football.

We are determined to continue to raise awareness and educate people about sports-related dementia in rugby and football.

With your support, we are fundraising for much needed research in the prevention and cure for early onset dementia and neurogenerative disease in the sports we love.
