Story
Zambia has been grappling with low literacy levels in primary schools and many interventions have been made to arrest the falling literacy levels with minimal improvements. Children in Zambia are taught English literacy in Grade 3. There is a lack of access to relevant education resources and therefore gaps in Primary Teachers knowledge regarding literacy in English. This has a huge impact on children's ability to learn to read and write in English which in turn impacts their future education.
Solution
In collaboration with the Ministry of General Education in Zambia and Jolly Futures we are training all Grade 3 teachers in the Copperbelt Province in our contextualised Jolly Phonics Teaching Aid. Alongside this we are creating sustainable educational resources. We also partner with the Teaching Council for Zambia and other professional bodies to make relevant, accessible and impactful literacy CPD (Continuous Professional Development).
I also want to appreciate the fact that the Ministry of Education has benefitted from you for the last five years you have worked with us in the province.
The training was very beneficial and exciting as it involved a lot of activities that teachers can use in their everyday classroom practice. We were privileged to host such an important training...This will definitely add value to the way we teach our English language lessons.
