The National Kidney Federation (NKF), established in 1978, is run by kidney patients to support kidney patients and their families across the UK with two main roles - patient support and campaigning.
The NKF provides a National Helpline dedicated solely to renal patients, their families and carers, by providing a free-to-call service on 0800 169 0936. The NKF is the UK's largest producer and distributor of kidney-related medical information leaflets with a library of over 200 titles written by nephrologists in simple language for patients.
The FREE UK Helpline is dedicated to kidney patients with two fully trained, experienced advisers providing a 5-day-per-week service to kidney patients, carers, healthcare professionals and renal units.
Your support will help us to continue the vital work of supporting kidney patients and their families and campaigning for better renal treatment.
This charity is very close to my heart, the NKF helps to support kidney patients and their families. I was diagnosed with renal failure at the age of 26 and it’s been a long and very challenging time for me throughout my journey. With having dialysis at home for 8 months, and then being very lucky to have got a transplant, which then unfortunately failed at 14 years, I then got cancer, but in the meantime, my brother was waiting to kindly give me a kidney. I was then 5 years clear of cancer and my brother started his journey to donate to me and in 2007 I got my new kidney which is still going 17 years on. I am so very grateful to my brother and to the National Kidney Federation to be able to give something back. I also did the Best Foot Forward Challenge in memory of a very dear friend Lorna whom lost her fight against this disease."
