Story
As the holidays approach, many families eagerly anticipate making Christmas special for their children. However, for families struggling financially, Christmas can be a stressful and daunting time. For some, even basic necessities, such as school uniforms or even a warm bed, are beyond reach.
At First Days Children's Charity, we offer peer support to parents, whilst providing the things children need to thrive, such as school uniforms, new baby essentials, beds and bedding, travel equipment, safety items, toys and books and much more.
In partnership with SHARE Wokingham, Wokingham Foodbank, and other local charities and groups we will be running "A Christmas Presence," a community Christmas project for families in our community.
For the past couple of years we have supported parents and caregivers of over 2000 children with the gifts they chose for their children. We understand that no one knows what a child wants for Christmas more than their family. So, with support from our kind and generous community and local businesses, who donated funds and brand new items, we were able to set up a ‘shop’ where parents/carers could come in for an evening of Christmas shopping and choose gifts for their children.
We need your help to set up our shop again and make this the best Christmas ever for families in our community.
Many children in our community will wake up on Christmas morning with no present to open. Your donation could change this.
Children only have one childhood, we can’t wait for the current cost of living crisis to pass.
Please donate £25 to buy a gift and help make this Christmas special for a child.
Here’s what else we’re doing to help this winter:
- We’ll be out and about with our mobile support hub, getting to the places in our community where we know families need our services the most
-We're distributing coats, warm items and energy efficient items to help families keep their household costs and bills down
- We’re working in partnership with SHARE and Wokingham Foodbank to run an affordable Community Supermarket
We know that many of us are feeling the pressure too on our household budgets this winter, but if you can, please consider helping those less fortunate, and making a donation to make this the best Christmas ever
