Story

Bernie Fleming, a father to six children and dearly loved husband of Cath, passed away from lung cancer at just 64 years old.

Bernie received his treatment and diagnosis at Aintree Respiratory Clinic. The staff there provided Bernie with exemplary care, for which Bernie's family are very grateful. The period of Bernie's diagnosis and treatment was tough, but the family pulled together to support one another and Bernie showed amazing optimism and courage during this time.

Bernie's family established the Bernie Fleming Aintree Lung Cancer Fund on 17 July 2018:

"Our hope is to improve and enhance patient experience for those going through lung cancer diagnosis and treatment at Aintree Hospital. This is an important aspect of care and can help maintain a positive mind-set to help patients continue their fight against cancer and help families to support their loved ones. We want to help relieve anxiety and help families through what we know can be a very difficult time. All fundraising will be dedicated to Aintree Hospital and your support is much appreciated."

The fund is managed by the Community Foundation for Merseyside (Registered Charity No. 1068887).
