Story
This fund has been set up in memory of Benjamin Ciaran Pavitt who sadly passed away on 8 October 2021, following a relapse of his acute T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoblastic lymphoma, aged just 16.
Ben and his family, friends and colleagues have raised more than £30,000 in the past for paediatric ICU at Southampton University Hospital, the Piam Brown childrens cancer ward, and Teenage Cancer Trust, but it is this fund alone - Ben Pavitts Legacy of Love Fund - which was set up to honour some of Bens dying wishes.
Donations to the fund go to CCLG, which is Piam Browns nominated research charity to fund research into all children's cancers. Despite progress made over recent decades, childhood cancer remains a leading killer of children by disease and we are still treating children today with drugs developed more than 50 years ago. Through the fund and its associated promotions and events, we aim to do whatever we can in particular to help spare other children and families the unbearable anguish of suffering a terminal diagnosis for childhood cancer.
In todays world, there really is no acceptable reason why 1 in 5 children even in well resourced countries (and many more, sadly, in the developing world) should be dying in this way, or why those who survive must continue to suffer often lifelong health effects from their treatments. Childhood cancer research receives woefully little targeted central funding, so we rely almost entirely on the good work of charities like CCLG to improve this picture and eliminate childhood cancer for good.
Please help us to bring about positive change by making a donation to the fund and/or by setting up your own fundraiser linked to the fund, or even just alerting us to opportunities for fundraising events in your local area. We are open to all ideas, from theatrical events, to running, football tournaments, bake sales, sponsored hair cuts (!), badges, wristbands and clothing merchandising, whatever you can think of to help us get the message out. Thank you.
