Story
The 39th Belvedere College SJ Annual Sleep-Out takes place in 2022.
For the first time in the College's history we are inviting more students than ever to take part. Our total number of participants will be in excess of 280 students, up from 80 in pre Covid times.
We have learned from what we did in 2020 and 2021, when we could not be on the streets of Dublin, that we can successfully run a campaign where students sleep out in their gardens and raise funds via online fundraising pages with Just Giving. We raised in excess of €230,000 in 2020 and 2021 without shaking one single bucket.
So, for 2022, we have TY students involved for the very first time, along with an extended number of fifth year students who will sleep out in their gardens and fundraise online. We also have over 120 sixth year students sleeping out at the GPO on O'Connell St and in the College to raise much needed funds in aid of three very deserving charities working to combat homelessness; Focus Ireland (https://www.focusireland.ie), Peter McVerry Trust (https://pmvtrust.ie) and Home Again (https://www.homeagain.ie).
Homelessness has not gone away. In fact it is worse than before Covid with record numbers without a home. The current figure is the highest ever at almost 11,000 people with over 3,000 families and children. We are called to respond as best we can to support our three charities working with these vulnerable people.
In the spirit of Christmas we're asking you to be as generous and supportive of the cause by donating whatever you can.
