Story
On August 4, a massive explosion destroyed the port of Beirut, the capital city of Lebanon. People died, families became homeless and livelihoods were destroyed.
The impact on the city and its people is immense.
The eastern part of Beiruts port has been devastated, and buildings across the city severely damaged.
The British Red Cross works closely with the Lebanese Red Cross who were at the heart of the immediate response, and have a vital ongoing role in the fallout.
The recovery and rebuilding rests on a challenging backdrop of Lebanons ongoing economic crisis, and the tragic and complex challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
People face a long, difficult road ahead. But supporting our Beirut Emergency Appeal will help them.
The money raised will help the relief work on the ground being provided by the Lebanese Red Cross, who are responding to this emergency. In the unlikely event that the British Red Cross raise more money than can be reasonably and efficiently spent in Lebanon, any surplus funds will be used to help us prepare for and respond to other disasters / emergencies worldwide.
