Story

Been There is a charity providing 1:1 peer support for people who are suffering with body image distress including eating disorders and body dysmorphia.

61% of adults in the UK feel negative or extremely negative about their body.

Encompassed in this statistic is a disturbing reality:

1/8 people experience suicidal thoughts because of poor body image.

Up to 3.4 million people in the UK are living with an eating disorder.

Anorexia Nervosa is the deadliest psychiatric disorder in Britain; most of its victims die by suicide.

Addressing body image issues is an emergency, and the support available is scarce, where many people are placed on waitlist and passed from service to service because they are either too sick or not sick enough. This is the reality of living with serious mental health conditions and eating disorders today.

Join Tessa on a part of her walk to show you are standing up against the stigma. This is our mothers, brothers, sisters and sons who are suffering alone, feeling like nobody can understand them. We all know someone experiencing body image issues. Let's help them to get the support they need.

Tessa will be joined by important advocates and influencers in the world of body image and mental health. Join her along the way to meet some amazing like minded people. You could be a part of Been There's biggest fundraising challenge to date.

You can help someone like Rachel:

Rachel came to us having suffered with body dysmorphia for over 30 years. Desperate and alone, her condition was so severe that she felt unable to leave the house. Speaking to a Mentor gave her a friend and hope; she learned to manage her body image issues and now she can confidently leave the house.

“I’d say it was a very lonely place before Been There. And then it’s like I’ve found a friend that I didn’t have. A friend that is there, is open and accepting and will listen. I feel like even in just the few months of engaging with Been There it’s had such an impact.”

“It’s feeling less alone, feeling validated and just positive about going forward, knowing that you can get to a place where you could help somebody else.”

There are thousands and thousands more people like Rachel.

You can be part of their support.
