Story
Be by the Sea
Support the RNLI by joining us in organising a gathering in your own community during the summer months, to raise funds for the charity that saves lives at sea.
Be by the sea is asking you and your friends to simply Be by the sea or even to be in the sea, for the lifeboats. Designed as an inclusive event for everyone, we know that people love spending time By the sea and that the sea is very good for us. Whether your passion is to swim, walk, hike, meditate, fly kites, build sandcastles or even just sit together enjoying a coffee and having ‘the chats’, there is something for everyone to do. Imagine a picnic on the beach, tea by the sea, beach yoga, a quick dip, sauna or a coastal walk, it really is that simple.
Helen Mason is an artist, sea swimmer and kayaker who was inspired to create Be by the sea from her own experience of living on the Hook Peninsula in Co Wexford and growing up in a fishing community, surrounded by the sea. She has seen first-hand, the amazing work the RNLI volunteers do and being married to a fisherman, wanted to do something to support the lifeboats. Helen is herself organising a swim and picnic with her swimming friends and hopes that people around our coasts will also come together to organise their own ‘social gathering’ and help raise funds for the RNLI. She firmly believes that together, in small ways, we can achieve big things.
We hope you are inspired to organise your own fundraising event, big or small, in the RNLI’s 200th anniversary year.
