Story

Ian and Sylwia, this year's Captains, have selected Whizz Kidz as their chosen charity for 2024/25.

Whizz Kidz are the UK’s leading charity for young wheelchair users. They create opportunities for young wheelchair users to get the equipment, skills, and confidence to go further.

They supply made-to-measure wheelchairs to some of the 75,000 young people in the UK who need them to be fully mobile. Often the wheelchair they get from their local service is ill-fitting, uncomfortable, and challenging to use. Whizz Kidz has over 30 years of experience tailoring high-quality equipment, providing over 10,000 wheelchairs to date, so it meets users’ unique needs and helps change their lives.

Whizz Kidz also run a range of events and sessions, designed to build confidence, independence, and employability, including Wheelchair Skills Training, activity days and work placements – reducing isolation and enhancing the health and well-being of our community

They also work closely with young wheelchair users and their families to understand the issues that impact them the most. We then use this knowledge to advocate on their behalf and lobby policymakers at all levels of government. Our efforts range from ensuring equal access to transport and employment to calling for under-5s to have high-quality wheelchairs that give them the best start in life.

With the help of Bearwood Lakes this year, we can continue to provide essential equipment to even more young people to transform their lives.

On behalf of the Captains and Whizz Kidz, thank you for support.
