Bert's Big Adventure is an organization which supports economically disadvantaged children with chronic and terminal illnesses (and their families). The support starts with a trip to Disney World but that's just the beginning. After the trip, the kids and families are supported with special programs during their all too frequent hospital visits, with quarterly reunions, and when the inevitable happens, with funeral expenses, if needed. In the last week, one of the 2019 Bert's Big Adventure kiddos gained his angel wings. What a comfort there is in knowing that WE ALL contributed to wonderful experiences for this special family before cancer affected their lives in such a permanent way.

Every day you hear stories about children being diagnosed with chronic or terminal illnesses - the circles around us seem to be getting smaller every day. As you can imagine, this breaks apart a flood of emotions and the families face unimaginable challenges. Their lives change in ways that many of us will never experience, much less understand. The family opportunities to have happier moments during these times are difficult to achieve their visits to hospitals, doctors and therapies seem like a never-ending cycle. Berts Big Adventure focuses on breaking this cycle and providing fun, magical moments for the families in the organization throughout the year! Please help us make our own kind of "magic" - We need your participation to achieve our goal!

This organization is near and dear to our hearts, Cindy has been involved in BBA, as we call it, for seventeen years and, in fact, serves on the board. After we both stopped working we had the opportunity to become more involved. One aspect of that involvement has, as I said before, using one of our annual bicycle tours to raise awareness. The past three years we used our rides on the C&O Canal/Great Allegheny Passage (Washington DC to Pittsburgh) as our fundraising vehicle. We raised $10,000 in 2016, $11,000 in 2017, and $12,000 in 2018. Largely thanks to your support.This year, the bicycle tour is North Carolina Mountains to Coast from Sunday Sept 29 in Blowing Rock, NC, to Saturday Oct 5 at Atlantic Beach, NC. 486.9 miles, but who's counting? This year Kevin is riding, and Cindy is in a support role.

We have raised the bar on ourselves in 2019. Our fundraising goal is $15,000. When we achieve it, it will because Kevin is "turning the crank", and Cindy was working hard at "mission control" to drive awareness and commitment to enable a successful effort. Help us surpass our goal!!
