Who needs a new home? The barn owls living around Cheyenne Bottoms!
The Kansas Wetlands Education Center needs a replacement barn owl box near the KWEC Nature Trail, proving housing for displaced barn owls. An Apix P3375-LVE is also needed to implement a Barn Owl webcam for the public to view barn owl behavior, increasing appreciation for this feathered rodent-killing machine. Having resident barn owls also meshes well with the numerous barn owl pellet programs presented by KWEC staff to school groups.
Kansas Wetlands Education Center, under FHSUs Werth College of Science, Technology and Mathematics, is located 10 miles northeast of Great Bend at Cheyenne Bottoms, a wetland of international importance. The nature center offers more than 700 environmental education programs annually and features the Koch Wetlands Exhibit with interactive exhibits, a classroom with live animal exhibits, the Duane Shook Auditorium, and the Wetlands Gift Store. More information about KWEC can be found at wetlandscenter.fhsu.edu.
