Will you help us to save the lives of premature babies born in war-torn Ukraine?
Amid the stress and trauma of war, premature births across Ukraine have increased with more than 14,780 recorded in 2023. Recent reports talk of premature babies being born at 26 weeks weighing only 600 grams. A hospital in Dnipro made (Ukraine) history by successfully saving a baby weighing only 470 grams at birth; less than a bag of sugar! In these examples, medical teams stated the importance of modern incubator technology as instrumental in saving the lives of pre-term babies.
Following the July 2024 Russian shelling of the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital (Kyiv), there were reports of how medical staff had to carry oxygen-dependent babies in just cribs to neighbouring shelters and other medical facilities – placing these very fragile newborn lives at considerable risk. This recent attack on the hospital (one of 1300 carried out on medical facilities during the last 2 years) continues to illustrate the desperate need for portable baby incubators. Some estimates suggest that more than 50% of pre-term babies could be saved if medical staff had access to more supplies of life-saving portable baby incubators; 400 are needed.
With your support, we will raise funds to buy a portable, compact and lightweight premature baby incubator which runs off a car battery (so it’s not reliant on electricity) manufactured in Britain by MoM Incubators (www.momincubators.com). Each portable incubator, capable of being used in different clinical settings, will cost £11,500 to purchase and safely transport to Ukraine; we will join forces with partners including those based in Ukraine to ensure this happens. We have raised £4,000 through a grant and donations so far. But we need your help to raise the remaining £3000
Every donation that’s made to this page brings us all closer to helping premature babies survive in war-torn Ukraine.
