Story

Ayo will be embarking on a charity bike ride for 9 days Riding Across Britain covering 980 miles starting from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for the North Mid Red Cell Services fund.

Sickle Cell disease is a genetic condition that alters the shape of red blood cells, turning them from flexible, round cells to rigid, sickle-shaped ones. This change in shape can cause blockages in blood vessels, leading to pain, infections, organ damage, and complications that can severely impact the quality of life for those diagnosed with the condition. It's a lifelong illness that not only affects physical health but also imposes emotional and financial burdens on patients and their families.

Taking part in the Ride Across Britain organized by Babble serves as a powerful platform to raise both awareness and funds for North Mid Red Cell Services fund, dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell disease. By participating in this event, donations raised will contribute to the crucial work Red Cell Services fund does in offering support services, funding research, and advocating for better care and treatments for those living with Sickle Cell disease.

On a personal note, this cause is close to Ayo's heart, having witnessed the challenges faced by those with sickle cell disease and their families. This inspires me to take action and use my passion for cycling as a means to contribute positively. Each pedal stroke is a step towards a future where sickle cell disease no longer dictates the limits of one's life.
