Story

As a library service, we are proud to deliver the Summer Reading Challenge to the children of Bridgend, aged 4-11. Pre-pandemic, almost 3,000 local children joined the challenge, and with your support we'd like to reach even more children in 2022.

The Summer Reading Challenge, run by the Reading Agency in partnership with public libraries, helps keep children reading for pleasure over the school holidays. National literacy levels have been significantly affected by the pandemic, so this year it is even more important we help the children of Bridgend find the true joy of opening a book and diving into magical worlds.

Reading builds children's skills and confidence, and helps to maintain and develop their literacy level over the summer break.

With your donation, we can make sure our 2022 Summer Reading Challenge activities reach the children who need it most within the county borough of Bridgend. It will allow Awen Libraries (part of Awen Cultural Trust, a registered charity) to run activities that will engage and inspire children in stories and STEM activities, and win prizes for reading!

Your donation, however small it may seem, will make a big difference to local children's lives.

Thank you for your support.
