Asma's Story: From Hardship to Hope
Asma's life began with tremendous challenges. At just 10 years old, she lost her mother and found herself living with her father and stepmother in difficult circumstances. Seeking a better life, she ran away at 11 and began working in a brick kiln factory. Her older sister, who had also started working from a young age, moved Asma to a guesthouse where she earned just £33 per month cleaning, sweeping, washing up and making tea.
Despite her demanding work, Asma's spirit remained unbroken. She desperately wanted to learn, secretly teaching herself to read and write using the owners' children's books after her long working hours. In 2019, at 16, she was rescued by Child Rescue Nepal and given the opportunity to attend school.
Since then, she has blossomed, developing a talent for trail marathon running, winning awards, and participating in our youth programme. Now 22, Asma is preparing to come to the UK to run the London Marathon, hoping to raise funds and awareness for Child Rescue Nepal, and to help other young people become empowered just as she has been.
