Story
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on charities, with the cancellation of thousands of events and an estimated loss of £4 billion in funding. As Ashinaga UK depends on income from fundraising events, we need your support to keep empowering young change-makers for their communities.
Ashinaga UK enables talented but disadvantaged orphaned students to study at world-class UK universities, develop their skills and ideas, and then return home in order to enact meaningful change. We run two programs, the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI), and the Ashinaga UK Masters Program (AMP).
AAI Scholars represent some of the most gifted and dedicated students in their countries. They are selected from over 3,000 applicants based on their leadership potential and academic strength. Despite the loss of one or both parents, they were able to score in the top 5% in their countrys school examinations while engaging in outstanding community service and other extracurricular activities. Their backgrounds and personalities make them uniquely placed to become empathic and compassionate leaders who understand the needs of their communities. They are committed to returning home to apply the skills they learn at university and through Ashinagas leadership program.
AMP Scholars are from Japan and despite the loss of one or both parents, were able to gain admission to Japans top universities for undergraduate study. Many finish their undergraduate degrees among the top performers in their class, whilst also engaging with charitable activities.
We believe in the power of opening access to education to empower the disadvantaged into becoming compassionate change-makers. Both AAI and AMP Scholars have the capacity to go on to achieve significant social impacts in their communities.
Your support will help future Scholars develop into the next generation of leaders and agents of social change. Donations will help cover student living costs and professional development opportunities, such as attending conferences and undertaking internships. Our donor pledge means that 100% of these donations will be used on student costs.
