Meet this year's honorees:
CHAMPION AWARD: MAYOR KAREN BASS
Karen Bass is the 43rd Mayor of Los Angeles and the first woman and second African American to be elected as the city's chief executive. With an agenda focused on bringing urgency, accountability, and a new direction to Los Angeles, she will start her term with a focus on housing people immediately and increasing safety and opportunity in every part of Los Angeles.
COMMUNITY HERO AWARD: FOUNDER AWARD
As Vice Chancellor from 1991 until his retirement in 2007, Mr. Mandel was responsible for managing the legal affairs of the UCLA campus. Mr. Mandel has been active on a wide range of associations, committees, and boards of directors, including serving as President of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, President of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, and as President of the Yale Law School Association. This year, Joe, a dedicated board member and longtime ambassador for CLC retired from our board. During his tenure at CLC, Joe remained committed to strengthening the organization. He onboarded many new board members as the Chair of the Governance Committee and his meaningful contributions will continue to help drive our important mission.
COMMUNITY HERO AWARD: JENNY SHEETS
Jenny Sheets is a longtime supporter of CLC's Uplift with a Gift holiday program. Every year, Jenny rallies her community to raise money and purchase hundreds of gifts for children in need. In the last five years, Jenny and her community have provided thousands of gifts and sponsored over 125 children. Over the years, Jenny, her husband Mike, and three children have organized, wrapped, and delivered gifts to CLC's office ensuring hundreds of children have a happy holiday.
