The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileEysha is a Shar Pei, she is only 14 months old and was brought into Ferne as her owner unfortunately could not keep her. She was overweight, so we started her on a diet and strict exercise regime with a gradual increase in the amount of exercise she was given, and over time she became more playful and enjoyed her paddock time with the other dogs.
We then noticed that Eysha was holding her hind leg up and quickly realised that she had dislocated her knee. After gently putting it back in place we took her to the vets for a check-up as we suspected she may have a luxating patella (a condition where the kneecap pops out of the groove it rides in) and unfortunately, our fears were confirmed. It is a common condition in this breed of dog.
It was vital that the operation was performed as her lameness would have become progressively worse if left for too long. Over time, the patella wears a hole in the cartilage which also slows the healing process, so this surgery was needed urgently to correct the defect. She will also need after care such as physiotherapy and possibly hydrotherapy to help strengthen her muscles and joints, as well as veterinary medications to help with the pain and inflammation. The cost of the opperation alone is £800.
She is quite a timid dog and seeks reassurance by cuddling up to you, but once she gets to know you is very loving and, considering she must be in a lot of discomfort, she is always happy to see you. She is such an affectionate dog and we want to do all we can to make her life pain free and for her to live a long happy life.
All funds raised by this appeal will be used to finance Eysha's veterinary care and therapies. If any excess is raised it will be used to help fund veterinary care across the Sanctuary.
