The Angel Ride-Run-Walk 2019 on September 14, 2019 is a bike ride and 5k benefiting Angels of Action. Participants can run or walk the 5k or bike any amount of distance up to 100 miles! Proceeds help feed food insecure kids in Mecosta County.
For 1 in 6 children in Mecosta County, schools meals are their only reliable source of food. When the weekend comes around, these children worry about where their next meal will come from.
The need to help these children in apparent in the stories we hear from the teachers that are with these kids five days a week. Holly, a teacher at Riverview Elementary, was talking with one of her students on an average Friday. The student was especially excited today and told Holly that Friday was their favorite day of the week.
"Why is that?" Holly asked, "Do you have exciting plans for the weekend?"
The student responded, "No, I love Fridays because it's Angel Day!"
It took Holly a moment to realize what the student meant by "Angel Day". Every Friday, students who are a part of Angels of Action's Backpack Blessing Program receive their weekend food bag every Friday in their lockers. This student was so excited because he knew that he would have food, a basic necessity.
Sometimes people take for granted that when they go home, there will be food in their pantries and fridges. For the children we service, they rely on us to provide a basic need every weekend. That is what motivates to keep doing what we do every day. You can help Angels of Action feed these children. Just $5 will feed a child for a weekend. No amount is too small to make a huge difference in a child's life.
