Story
Why is it that - a Natter Matters?
It's a sad realisation that too many older people experience loneliness, which has proven to be more harmful to health than smoking. For many housebound people our charity offers a lifeline to keep them connected. People can become socially isolated for many reasons, such as getting older or weaker, no family or none living nearby, the deaths of spouses and friends, or through disability or illness. Many more could benefit hugely from our charity services and feel that they are not forgotten.
This is why our local charity is appealing for you to help us raise £5760 to bring happy natters to 30 lonely, isolated and vulnerable older people.
The Age Connects Community Support Project aims to tackle social isolation and loneliness in old age. The need for such support is vital to help those who are vulnerable and cut off. The service provides befriending and practical help for local older people who do not have family and friends nearby and many of whom would consider themselves to be housebound. Our team of wonderful volunteers can collect shopping, prescriptions and chat to someone who otherwise would not have any social contact.
This vital lifeline of a service comes at a cost for us to provide and requires wonderful volunteers to help us reach out to as many older people in need as we possibly can and we need your donations to ensure that we can continue to do this and reach even more.
£2.50 is the amount needed to cover a volunteers one-off expenses to visit a client once a week.
> £10 would provide a month's worth of weekly visits.
> £72 will cover the cost of recruiting and training one volunteer.
> £6 per month as an ongoing regular donation would spread the above cost over a year.
Therefore, to sum up... recruitment costs of £72 for 30 new wonderful volunteers = £2160.
£120 for a month of weekly visits for 30 clients = £3600.
Grand total of £2160 + £3600 = £5760 so this is our target
PLEASE HELP US REACH AND HOPEFULLY EXCEED IT!
