Story
Alma Beacon encompasses three vital projects that provide essential support to the vulnerable members of our local community. These projects are Windsor Street Angels, Windsor Homeless Project, and Windsor FoodShare.
Our aim at Alma Beacon is to support vulnerable people in our Windsor community, providing access to help, food, and a safe base as well as providing the opportunity to start the process of rebuilding lives and we need your assistance to help us continue supporting the community.
We aim to deliver the essence of kindness, nourishment, hope, and guidance that the name suggests.
In 2024 the charity secured its own building for the first time located at 73a Alma Road. The building now enables us to support, in an integrated way, the vulnerable members of our community. Our expanded capabilities through our various initiatives will help us to make an even greater difference to the lives of those in need and we strive to bring hope, comfort, and assistance to individuals facing challenging circumstances such as food poverty, homelessness, or night-time vulnerability.
Windsor Street Angels supports residents and visitors to Windsor every Friday and Saturday night. Our volunteers provide a visible presence each weekend to offer their assistance, from charging phones and arranging transport home for clubgoers to supplying provisions to our rough sleepers or administering first aid, the Angels play a vital role in keeping Windsor safe. In addition, Street Angels also provides a place of safety and sanctuary to those in need, in the form of our Safety Hub.
Operating out of Alma Beacon building The Windsor Homeless Project provides practical support to the vulnerable and homeless. Guests are invited to enjoy a hot meal in welcoming surroundings with access to showers, healthcare assistance, and other services. Importantly managers and visiting professionals attend to help guests rebuild their lives including assistance with housing and tenancy, jobs, addiction support, training and other advice. During the coldest months of the year additional evening warm hub support is provided.

Windsor Foodshare currently helps almost 200 people per week in our local community who are suffering food poverty. Working with our community partners on a referral basis, we provide top-up food parcels of nutritious ingredients to those who would otherwise go hungry. We give out non-perishable foods, including tea and cereals, as well as fresh eggs, bakery items and fresh fruit and vegetables. We rely on donations and support from our local community to be able to meet increasing demand. Our amazing group of volunteers help in sorting food for deliveries, distribution, and in fundraising, treating everyone and each other equally, and with kindness and respect.
