Story
This October, Active Lancashire is on a mission to transform lives through the power of cycling. With our Active Cycles project, we aim to provide accessible cycling opportunities to those who need it most—people who may not have access to bikes or the skills to use them. We’re challenging members of the public to cycle 60 miles and raise £60 to support this vital initiative. Together, we can make a real difference!
Since launching, Active Cycles has provided high-quality, recycled bicycles to the people of Lancashire, all while reducing waste and lowering carbon emissions. Each year, thousands of bicycles end up in landfills or sit unused in garages. With the support of our trained mechanics and dedicated volunteers, we refurbish these bikes, ensuring they're roadworthy, affordable, and ready for a new lease of life. By doing so, we're not only giving people access to low-cost transport but also helping the environment.
Our shop, based in Accrington's Arndale Centre, is a hub for sustainability and community. Thanks to the support from Breaking Cycles CIC, we’ve been able to bring this project to life, offering adult bikes at £50 and children’s bikes at just £25—or even £10 with a trade-in.
How You Can Get Involved
This October, we’re launching the Active Cycles 60-Mile Challenge. Whether you're an experienced cyclist or a complete beginner, we’re inviting everyone to join in and cycle 60 miles throughout the month. If you already cycle to work or school, this could be the perfect opportunity to use your daily rides for a greater cause. Not only will you improve your fitness, but you'll also be helping us raise vital funds to keep the wheels turning on our project.
All the money raised will go back into expanding the initiative, ensuring we can repair even more bikes and support local communities through volunteer opportunities, roadshows, and cycle training.
Your Donations Make a Difference
