Story
On 9th August 2022 I woke to discover no movement from my identical twin girls, Jessica & Aimee. I went to the Queen Elizabeth University Maternity Unit in Glasgow for a scan and was devastatingly told that there was no heartbeat for Aimee. This resulted in me needing an emergency C section to deliver both girls so that Jessica had a chance to survive. Both girls were delivered at 32 weeks and 4 days with Jessica weighing 3lbs 9oz and Aimee 4lbs.
Jessica spent the first 3 weeks of her life in NICU until she grew strong enough to finally come home and it was here that a purple butterfly card was placed in her incubator to make healthcare professionals as well as other families aware that Jessica was the survivor of a twin pregnancy. This gave us some comfort as the card was there to represent Aimee with her name clear for all to see. We later went on to learn about The Skye High Foundation who created the card and the amazing work they do in raising awareness with the loss of a twin or multiple in a pregnancy.
The purple butterfly remains and will forever be a huge part of our family in representing Aimee and so we have decided to set up Aimee's Butterfly Fund in her memory. This means we can continue to support this wonderful charity who provide vital care not only to parents but by also providing essential training and guidance to hospital staff during extremely difficult times. The Skye High Foundation is a wonderfully unique charity and we want to do all we can to thank and support them in years to come in memory of our beautiful baby Aimee.
