Story
As an organization with more than a century of experience in caring for our community, the Valley of the Sun YMCA responds quickly to these challenges; creatively expanding our programs to meet our community when, where and how we are needed most.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we can continue to ensure the health, safety and well-being of every YMCA child and family. We are working to pave the way for a bright future to all of our community no matter their age, race, gender or socioeconomic status.
OUR MISSION
The Valley of the Sun YMCAs mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
OUR CAUSE
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Every summer the Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA hosts a free teen volunteer and leadership program.
Teens participate in weekly sessions on business etiquette, civic engagement, and personal development while also receiving hands-on job training.
Without this program, these teens would lack the acumen to be prepared for and successful in the adult world.
FOR HEALTHLY LIVING
Through the YMCA Outreach Program for Aging Seniors (Y OPAS), the Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA will provide 200 older adults with services to maintain their independence.
We provide transportation, friendly visiting, social gatherings, and light household duties to homebound seniors.
Without this program, seniors who are unable to drive would continue to be socially isolated, which could result in depression and declining health.
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA does not turn anybody away for an inability to pay for a YMCA membership or programs.
Scholarships can be applied to any Y program including Childcare, Sports, Swim Instruction, and Health/Wellness.
We award scholarships to those in the community who are seeking a healthier lifestyle, a place of belonging, or are in need of the programs the YMCA provides but they cannot afford.
