Story
The escalating violence in Afghanistan has seen 1000's of people fleeing their homes to safety. As a dispersal city and the home to 100's of refugees and asylum seekers Plymouth will be welcoming refugee families who have been evacuated from Afghanistan.
There are currently families who are trying to get home to Plymouth, who need our help and those who will be resettled within the next year.
It has been announced that Plymouth City Council is now committing to helping a further 60 people within the next year. This will include vulnerable Afghan citizens, such as women and children.
At this time, OHOB are focusing fund-raising efforts on supporting the Afghan refugees and the refugee service providers in Plymouth, so they can provide what is needed.
We are working with and supporting Students and Refugees Together (START) -Devon and Cornwall Refugee Support (DCRS) & Plymouth Access to Housing (PATH)
This fundraiser is specifically for the Afghan families and individuals who will be arriving in the city of Plymouth, or those who are already in the city and have family in Afghanistan. The money raised will also support those who are housed temporarily in Plymouth, or those who are permanently resettled.
Your donation will be gratefully received across the city, and give a number of agencies the capacity to deliver practical and emergency resettlement support and help to those who are arriving from Afghanistan. The money will also help those who are trying to return to the city which they have made their home.
Over the next 5 years the UK government has committed to welcoming 20,000 Afghan refugees; they want to offer sanctuary to those most at risk of persecution.
Resettlement support is a vital resource in Plymouth providing assistance to a number of agencies and charities who work closely with the individuals and families as they start to rebuild their lives - so please keep donating and sharing!
