*** LAST DATE OF THE APPEAL - 31st JULY 2020 ***
The entire world is witness to Afghanistans suffering through endless years of wars. These conflicts have prevented Afghanistan from recovering, being fully functional and independent, resulting in a paralyzed country.
With a shattered healthcare system, world health officials fear this pandemic could wreak havoc in Afghanistan, a country of 37 million people and being one of the world's poorest countries. Ongoing war, poverty, inadequate healthcare and large numbers of internal refugees all add up to make it one of the most exposed countries to the virus on the planet.
Soon after the lockdown enforcement by the government, prices of essential food items have soared, wages of daily labourers have plummeted and food has diminished, placing the already 2 million malnourished children in Afghanistan in a deadly situation. This is the dire state throughout the 34 provinces in Afghanistan.
With experts predicting a famine that can take the lives of millions in Afghanistan. Urgent relief is required immediately to overcome the overwhelming spread of famine. This campaign is a symbol of unity in isolation, committed to provide those in desperate need with emergency food packages in the worst affected areas in Afghanistan. Our target is to raise a colossal 1 million pounds to reach the forgotten families. A target that is attainable with your generous donations. We will bridge the online and offline world to lift thousands out of famine. The time to act is now!
Ehsas Welfare and Social Services Organisation (EWSSO) is the implementing partner in Afghanistan. EWSSO is a registered NGO at the Ministry of Economy and currently operates in 34 provinces, they have a credible track record of providing aid to the most impoverished people in Afghanistan. Other groups will partner, volunteer and monitor the process as third parties. The whole process starting from donation receipt to distribution of funds will be documented. Whereby, sums donated are traced to the aid recipient. The most vulnerable families or individuals i.e. orphans, widows, disabled will be identified by locals in contact with aid distributors in Afghanistan. Due to the critical situation in Afghanistan aid will be withdrawn and distributed on a weekly basis.
The current situation presents a historic and unprecedented opportunity for not only organisations, but for all of us to unite and fulfil our moral duty of supporting the vulnerable people across Afghanistan.
