Story

There is no cure for Alzheimer's, Dementia or Parkinsons.

Current treatment options to slowdown the symptoms for people suffering from ADP, range from drugs that help to boost the chemicals in the brain that pass on messages, to alternative therapies and counselling that help people to come to terms with the condition and its implications.

For people diagnosed with dementia there is no way to reverse the damage that has been sustained or to halt the progress of the disease. Treatment plans focus on trying to slow down progression of the disease, coming to terms with the diagnosis and putting personalised plans for care in place.

There is a real need to find a cure for these life-changing and life-limiting conditions.

At Nottingham Trent University we have the unique opportunity to bring together a multi-disciplinary team of experts to explore new and innovative methods to bring about change in the prognosis of these destructive diseases.

One of the strengths of NTUs research is that we work collaboratively to explore problems. This multi-disciplinary approach means that multiple perspectives can bring about novel solutions.

This research collaboration brings together chemical engineers, nano-scientists and hydrogen production specialists, to name a few. Research by Dr Gareth Cave and his team will use ultrasound, ultraviolet light, radio frequency and nano bubbles of hydrogen to break down barriers that are inhibiting the treatment of ADP.

To date there have been no substantive breakthroughs, or revolutionary discoveries in the prevention or treatment of ADP. For us to make that breakthrough we believe that the time has come for a completely new approach to increase our knowledge and awareness of how this disease occurs and how we can treat it.

In order to address this escalating situation, funding is needed for the development and implementation of novel research into the causes, and treatment of ADP.

A generous donation from Professor Tony Marmont, in memory of Angela Marmont has enabled us to create a project team and make a start on finding a new way to prevent and/or treat ADP. Our interdisciplinary team will combine their knowledge to pioneer new approaches in the prevention and treatment of ADP.

Please join us on this journey and help to support this new approach with a gift today.
