Story
Welcome to our Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland LEJOG Adventure!
We are a group of Aortic Dissection survivors, relatives and carers who have taken on the challenge of completing 1,375 miles between us which totals the scenic route between Lands’ End to John o’Groats.
An Aortic Dissection survivor often has to come to terms with new challenges, both physically and mentally. Sometimes these challenges are life-changing. A small group from Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland Buddy group discovered that meeting up, covering a few miles and talking, helped us adjust to the new physical and mental challenges that came with our Aortic Dissections. We talked about creating a group goal, covering a significant distance whilst raising awareness of AD and enabling us to raise some funds for our wonderful Charity: www.aorticdissectionawareness.org
We hatched a plan to share this with our inclusive and supportive patient support group; https://www.facebook.com/groups/aorticdissectionbuddiesuki/ and invited members to join the adventure and cover the mileage however they can. We are the voice of Aortic Dissection Patients in the UK & Ireland and the Patient is at the heart of everything we do. Our Buddy support group is a testament to that and we now have a team ready to face the challenge and cover the mileage.
There is no minimum distance, no maximum distance and can be completed anytime, anywhere, up to the end date. It is entirely dependent on the individual’s personal circumstances and as many members of our group are wheelchair users due to complications of their dissections and or emergency life-saving surgeries, every single metre will be cherished and add to the cumulative total.
We are all so very proud and grateful to every participant for being up to the challenge and so thankful to every single person donating their hard-earned cash. We look forward to sharing our progress!
TODAY IS A GOOD DAY!
2nd November 2023,
Fantastic news!
This afternoon we have completed the 1,375 miles of our journey.
A big thank you to all the Buddies who participated in the challenge and a big thank you to everybody who has donated to our charity through supporting a participant in the challenge. Your donation will make a big difference to our work supporting those affected by Aortic Dissection and the education that we are able to offer healthcare professions.
Thank you!
