Story
Aortic Dissection Awareness started life as a small group of people who had suffered an aortic dissection and found themselves with inadequate information about their condition and a complete lack of knowledge of fellow sufferers.
In the intervening years, this small group became an unincorporated association that has grown to have in excess of 700 members and became a CIO in April 2022.
For a number of years, we have led the organisation of the annual Aortic Dissection Day in the UK, which is held as close to 19th September each year and is awarded to an institution that is recognised by patients as doing excellent work in the field of aortic dissection
We campaign for more informed recognition of the condition by many means, including our THINK AORTA campaign and by increasing awareness of the condition within primary and emergency care settings. We also have a commitment to supporting research into the causes of aortic dissection and the treatment thereof.
In May 2022, we published and launched "Aortic Dissection - The Patient Guide" a comprehensive guide on Aortic Dissection, written by patients and content reviewed by a number of medical professions, that we have committed to make available, free of charge, to all patients suffering an aortic dissection.
Our work does not stop there, with a commitment to producing further resources, undertaking training events, campaigning to improve diagnosis and treatment and supporting a number of research projects related to the condition.
Foremost though, is to continue to provide the voice for patients and to support fellow sufferers of the condition
