Story
We are a lifeline for those facing homelessness and also for thousands of individuals and families living in crisis across East Staffordshire. However, we cannot do what we do without your help. Support us by getting active in June and raising both awareness and vital funds to help us ensure that we can continue delivering our key services to those who desperately need them in our local community.
As a charity covering the whole of East Staffordshire, we support 12,000 people every year, including individuals and families from every corner of the borough through our range of vital services preventing and tackling homelessness, as well as supporting people and families in crisis. A central part of this support in tackling homelessness is our Outreach service which involves our Outreach Navigator and a team of volunteers going out every fortnight in the early hours of the morning looking for rough sleepers on the streets of Burton on Trent. Members of the public are also able to call us if they see someone sleeping rough, and we will go out to offer support as quickly as possible.
So, why 50 miles? 50 miles is the distance from our main site, Reconnect, on James Street to Yoxall, then Abbots Bromley, Uttoxeter, Rocester and back, as well as the loop around Burton town centre that our Outreach team cover regularly. The area that we cover is much larger than this as we cover the whole of East Staffordshire, however by highlighting an array of areas, we are emphasising how homelessness isn’t just visible in the towns and cities, but is also in the rural villages too.
Homelessness is everywhere and doesn’t discriminate, whether it be rough sleeping on the streets or hidden homelessness through sofa surfing. This is why we are here to support people from all corners of the borough 365 days of the year, 24/7 and the reason why we won’t ever give up.
