Story
Pupils from low income backgrounds are less likely to achieve academically. They have as much will, want and determination as their more affluent peers, but often lack access to the tools and resources that help them achieve.
Due to the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, the attainment gap between pupils on free school meals and their more affluent peers is now at its highest mark in a decade. Disadvantaged pupils living in persistent poverty (i.e. on Free School Meals for more than 80% of their school life) are now, on average, over 22 months behind their classmates by the end of secondary school. Our support is needed now more than ever.
At Action Tutoring, we know we can make a positive difference to the education, and thus life, of a child or young person. By donating to us or volunteering as a tutor, you are helping a young person build their maths or English subject knowledge, confidence and growth mindset, opening opportunities for them in education and the working world.
Tutoring helps you to get what you want. Without it I might not have got to where I needed to be, and I'm grateful that it pushed me. I put effort into my tutoring sessions because I wanted and needed the grade. I wanted to know I've done it, I've got it, I'm capable of doing it and fight for it. At sixth form I'm going to study sociology, health and social care and media studies." (Daniella, GCSE pupil - 2022)
