Story
Led by Luke Welch, Lee Britten and the High School Pastoral Care Team.
Last year we ran a successful Movember campaign and for the whole month had a great deal of activities for the staff and students to be involved in.
This year we feel it can be even bigger, in spite of the restrictions in place. It is more important than ever to focus in on the fact that throughout lockdown 'Exercise was the only thing left.' It was the only thing we were sanctioned by the government to be allowed to do.
This is because it is vital for our mental health. We have already seen the release and the relief from the students to be able to get back to their sports and teams and all the social and emotional connections and joy that it brings.
We feel that in a wider sense across the whole school itself, it is just great to be back. With this in mind this years Movember will be shaped to create more spirit in the High School by piloting a house system whilst focusing more upon the link between physical and mental health.
The houses are the elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Air and points awarded not just for sporting endeavour but for pieces of work connected to their own elements across other subjects.
There will also be HR quizzes to educate the students on what mental health actually means and how they can help themselves and these other more educationally based and work related facets ensures the inclusivity of the initiative.
We want to impact everyone. This year we can refine our objectives, collaborate with student led charities and inspire the High School to unite together as a community to raise funds and awareness for great causes.
Set against the backdrop of 2020 we can educate and open up conversations about in support of vital components that can contribute hugely towards our students being the architect of their own healthy and happy lifestyle .
This fundraiser will have 4 grade level sporting tournaments, parent and student workouts, quizzes and staff challenges. Two different events within the month will be sponsored by 'Pass on Hope' and 'Cancer Relief.' The rest of the funds raised will go to the Movember campaign.
Our Objectives:
To Improve students understanding of the positive mental and physical health benefits of exercise and the link between physical and mental health. Especially important this year within the context of Lockdown 2020 where Exercise was of such fundamental importance to everyone's positive mental health. Our tag line for the initiative is 'Exercise was the only thing left.'
To Improve the wellbeing programme at ACS for staff and students and, through the prism of competition, provide a vehicle to help foster community spirit and links.
To create an inclusive initiative that allows all students to contribute to their HR via collaboration with other subjects and consequently, strengthening the HR identity within the High School.
