The creative & cultural industries are vital to our society and the economy: having an immeasurable positive impact on lives; playing an integral part in YPs education and development. The sector needs an assorted pool of talent to remain relevant and flourish. However, its widely recognised that the UK sector lacks diversity. The pandemic has compounded existing issues of inequality and derailed many creative enterprises; we risk losing a generation of artists and face a number of issues, which BYMT exists to address.
~ Access to the Arts is determined, now more than ever, by where people live and what they can afford to pay. BYMT addresses the need for nationwide initiatives that reach underserved regions of the UK.
~ Education & Skills, in particular creative provision in schools, has been in decline for a decade. BYMT works to inspire creativity and develop artistic, social and technical skills in young people and enable them to fulfil their potential; in order to sustain our creative & cultural industries.
~ The Pipeline of Talent requires clear pathways from initial engagement through to professional careers in the industry. We offer cohesive programmes and cross-sector partnerships to supply the industry with the talent it needs and provide practitioners with steady work post-pandemic.
Music theatre represents around 50% of all theatre tickets sold in the UK; we are vital to its ecology - our business model enables creative risks, providing fertile ground for new work, whilst our delivery model assures quality. We are well-placed to find and nurture the diverse YP who will be both creators and consumers of future music theatre. Our pathways enable the next generation to connect with professionals and start, develop and succeed in their careers.
